Some anglers would rather have a kayak that is easy to grab and go, rather than a larger, better-equipped model, that is a pain to drag down to the water. After all, the whole reason you’re buying a kayak is so that you can catch more fish, so the easier it is to launch your kayak, the better. The Vibe Kayaks Yellowfin 100 kayak review discusses how this fits this bill perfectly, as it is lightweight, relatively small and easy to transport and store.

However, it also provides a comfortable ride, plenty of storage space and enough carrying capacity that you can bring along most of the gear you want to. When combined with its very reasonable price point, it clearly deserves consideration from anglers who prioritize portability and ease of use.

Pros

  • Very lightweight kayak that is easy for a single angler to carry
  • Plenty of storage space provided
  • Comes equipped with a comfortable and adjustable seat

Cons

  • No skid plate included
  • Rudderless design and small size can allow it to drift off course
  • Not quite as stable as some other Vibe Kayaks

Build Quality

Like all Vibe Kayaks, the Yellowfin 100 is very well designed and built from one piece of lightweight, yet rigid rotomolded polyethylene. It features a built-in keel to help improve its performance on the water and ensure that it tracks well despite being a fairly small vessel.

No skid plate is included to keep the cost and weight low, so you’ll need to use care when launching and landing the craft.

Storage Capacity

Despite being only 10 feet long, the Yellowfin 100 provides more than enough storage space for most anglers. It includes two 9-inch storage hatches with bag inserts, and two Plano tackle box holders, located on each side of the seat. A large cargo area is located at the stern and features bungee cords to keep your gear secure in choppy waters.

Mounting points for aftermarket accessories are also provided and give you the chance to mount additional rod holders (four flush-mount holders are already included) or your fish finder and GPS. A built-in cup holder rounds out the storage space provided.

Comfort

The Yellowfin 100 provides a relatively roomy cockpit for a small craft, although large anglers may find that it is a bit cramped. However, it comes with a Vibe Hero Seat, which is fully adjustable and provides the kind of support you want for long trips and long days on the water.

Adjustable foot braces are provided to ensure that you can achieve a comfortable paddling position, and all of the storage compartments and rod holders are situated in places that are easy to access while you are riding.

Stability

Like most Vibe Kayaks, the Yellowfin 100 is rather stable – many anglers may even find it stable enough to permit standing. However, because it is relatively small and only measures 32 inches wide, it isn’t as stable as some of the other kayaks in their lineup.

Nevertheless, it will provide plenty of stability while you are paddling in even choppy waters, and you won’t feel as though you are constantly at risk of tipping. The vessel is also remarkably buoyant for its size and is capable of carrying 375 pounds worth of rider and cargo.

Maneuverability

Like most small kayaks, the Yellowfin 100 is very nimble. You can easily pilot it through tight spaces and crowded waters, and it turns on a dime. It tracks reasonably well, but strong winds will often blow it off course, but this is to be expected from a rudderless craft of this size.

The Yellowfin 100 is easy to carry, as it is equipped with four easy-grip handles and weighs only 57 pounds. In fact, most anglers should be able to carry, launch and load the kayak without any additional help.

Summary

If you are interested in a craft that makes it easy to get out on the water quickly, the Yellowfin 100 is a great option. It provides most of the features anglers want, including plenty of storage space and a comfortable seat, and it is stable enough that many anglers will feel confident standing.

The craft is nimble and easy to pilot, yet still provides enough room to accommodate most anglers, and it provides enough capacity for you and all of the equipment you could want. Considering the quality and features it provides, it is quite surprising that the Yellowfin 100 is such an affordably priced kayak.
