While some anglers grow excited at the notion of piloting their kayak through the surf to reach deep, off-shore fishing grounds, others would rather spend their time fishing at out-of-the-way ponds and other quiet waters, where competition for fishing spots is minimal. For such anglers, portability and maneuverability are two of the most important characteristics to seek in an angling kayak.
The Perception Kayaks Pescador Pro 10.0 provides exactly this and represents a perfect choice for anglers who like to fish small, low-pressure waters. But the Pescador Pro 10.0 isn’t just a small, maneuverable and light craft, it is also fitted with all of the bells and whistles modern anglers desire. This makes it a great choice for small-water anglers of all skill levels.
- Very lightweight and easy to carry
- Remarkably stable for such a small kayak
- Included skid plate protects the hull from damage
- Very little storage space is included
- Does not track especially well across long distances
- Not stable enough to permit standing
The Pescador Pro 10.0 is a one-piece, rotomolded polyethylene kayak. The plastic used in its construction is resistant to not only UV rays, but scrapes and impacts with underwater obstacles too. This ensures that the kayak will last for years and hold up to the kind of abuse anglers like to dish out.
A skid plate is included to help protect the hull, and it gives you the chance to drag your kayak to the water without fear of damaging it. But despite being built like a tank, the Pescador Pro 10.0 is still a lightweight kayak, which weighs only 57 pounds. And because it is backed by a 5-year-warranty, you can purchase with confidence.
Smaller kayaks rarely have the storage space that larger kayaks do, but the Pescador Pro 10.0 provides even less storage space than most similarly sized kayaks do. In fact, this lack of storage space is one of the primary shortcomings of the craft. Although it does come with two molded-in rod holders and a number of places to mount after-market accessories, it lacks any water-tight storage compartments for tackle and other small items.
Two flat cargo areas are included at the front and rear of the craft; the front area features a stretch-mesh cover, while the rear storage area includes elastic cords to keep your gear secure. A fish finder console is included and provides drill-free access to the hull for the fish finder’s transducer.
The Pescador Pro 10.0 provides a surprisingly comfortable ride for a small craft, and its cockpit is both roomy and comfortable. The removable, fully adjustable Pro Seat features breathable mesh to keep your back cool, and it can be raised to allow for easier casting or lowered to allow for more stable paddling. Quick-adjust footrests are included to ensure that your legs and feet stay comfortable and provide a stable base for paddling.
The Pescador Pro 10.0 is surprisingly stable for a 10.5-foot-long, 32-inch-wide kayak. And although it is not quite stable enough for standing, it will allow you to scoot around calm and moderately choppy waters without sending you tumbling into the water.
The craft only has a capacity of 325 pounds, which means it isn’t a great choice for large anglers or those who like to bring along a ton of equipment, but small and medium-sized anglers will likely find it buoyant enough to allow you to fish with confidence.
The Pescador Pro 10.0 is 10.5 feet in length and features a 32-inch beam, making it is pretty easy to pilot through tight passages. It also turns on a dime, and generally handles like a high-performance kayak, despite being much more affordable than similarly capable crafts.
It tracks fairly well for a short, rudderless craft, and is easy to launch and land, thanks to its lightweight. Four handles are included (one on each side, one on the front and one on the back) to help make it easier to drag around and load up on your car.
The Pescador Pro 10.0 is a fantastic kayak for novice anglers, as well as advanced anglers seeking a highly maneuverable and lightweight craft. It isn’t well-suited for off-shore use, nor is it a great choice for choppy waters or rough surf. However, those who like to fish in calm, small waters will likely find this kayak to fit their needs perfectly.
And because it is easy to get this kayak to and from the water, it can also be a great option for smaller anglers, who may have trouble hauling around larger boats. You will have to devise a plan for storing your tackle and gear, given the paucity of storage options provided, but this is a relatively easy problem to work around.
