Young and pint-sized anglers often have trouble finding a kayak that is well-suited for their size. This forces many to use kayaks that are simply too large, which means that paddling and maneuvering the craft are much more difficult than they should be.
Fortunately, FeelFree makes a vessel specifically designed for such anglers: the FeelFree Move Angler. Measuring only 9 feet long and weighing only 42 pounds, the Move Angler is the perfect solution for small anglers. This includes youngsters who are just learning how to paddle, and experienced kayakers, who want a craft designed for riders their size.
- Reasonable capacity despite being very light
- Equipped with molded handles and a Keel in the Wheel, making it easy to transport, launch and land
- Ample storage space for its size
- Relatively stable for a 30-inch-wide kayak
- Relatively slow kayak that isn’t suitable for large, swift or rough waters
- Probably not stable enough to permit standing
- Paddlers of average size are likely to find it slightly cramped
- No thigh pads are included
The Move Angler may be small, but it is still made with the same build quality that characterizes other FeelFree kayaks. The hull is moderately rigid and strong, yet lightweight, and it includes several nice features, including a built-in drain plug and recessed fittings.
No skid plate is included, so you’ll need to be careful to avoid scratching the bottom of the hull in shallow water, or while launching and landing.
Despite being a pretty small vessel, the Move Angler still accommodates a reasonable amount of gear. A quarter-turn hatch is located in the front and is perfect for tackle and small tools, while the stern provides a flat cargo deck for coolers, live wells and other items. Bungee cords are included to help keep your gear secure and prevent it from falling into the water.
Two flush-mount rod holders are located behind the seat, and each of them comes with a rod leash, to keep your rod from slipping into the water, should you take a spill. A drink holder is located in the cockpit.
The Move Angler has a relatively roomy cockpit for a small vessel. The Kingfisher seat is padded and fully adjustable, and three foot wells provide you with four different leg-positioning options, to ensure you can achieve a comfortable ride.
No thigh pads are included, which is slightly disappointing, but probably shouldn’t dissuade you from purchasing this vessel if you find it suitable in most other ways.
Measuring just under 30 inches wide, the Move Angler is a pretty stable craft for its size. Few anglers are likely to find it stable enough for standing, but there is probably enough room for your feet if you are inclined to try.
However, the Move Angler only has a capacity of approximately 242 pounds (although the manufacturer recommends not exceeding 195 pounds), which means that larger anglers won’t be able to bring along very much equipment. However, children and petite paddlers will likely find the capacity sufficient.
The Move Angler is both agile in the water and easy to move, thanks to its lightweight and included Wheel in the Keel. This makes it a great choice for small anglers and kids, as they’ll be able to move it to or from the water without help.
It features a tri-hull design that helps to improve its tracking ability (as well as provide additional stability), and its short length makes it easy to turn in tight spaces. As a short craft, the Move Angler isn’t the fastest kayak on the water, but it is quick enough for small lakes and ponds.
There are few better options available for small anglers than the FeelFree Move Angler. Whereas a few other manufacturers make recreational kayaks for small paddlers, the Move Angler is specifically designed for anglers, and it provides the type of storage necessary to bring along plenty of tackle. It has the type of stability all anglers want, but young paddlers often need, and it is easy to maneuver in tight shoreline areas.
It is also easy to carry to and from the water, thanks to its lightweight. The FeelFree Move Angler doesn’t compare very favorably to most larger kayaks made by premium manufacturers, but it comes with all of the basic features a modern angler would want and provides great value for small and young paddlers.
