Just because you want a well-equipped fishing kayak doesn’t mean that you need a big vessel; sometimes, the maneuverability and portability a smaller kayak provides is the best option. This way, you can access the nooks and crannies at the local lake, pond or river, where the majority of the fish often hide.

The FeelFree Lure 10 is a perfect option for these circumstances, as it is loaded with helpful features for anglers, yet only measures 10 feet long.

Pros

  • The Gravity Seat is well padded and provides several different height options
  • Very impressive stability, which is sufficient to allow most anglers to stand up while fishing
  • Several storage options are included to provide plenty of places to store your tackle and gear
  • Wheel in the Keel makes it easy to roll/drag the kayak to the water
  • Remarkably stable and permits standing

Cons

  • Somewhat heavy; many anglers complained that it was hard to load on a roof rack
  • Several anglers reported that the Gravity Seat failed to remain locked in position
  • Lacks high-end speed
  • Does not include a transducer-compatible scupper
  • Gravity seat adds 10 pounds of weight to the craft

Build Quality

Most anglers were very pleased with the Lure 10’s construction and found it rigid, strong and durable. Made of polyethylene, the craft is built to last for years and withstand the bumps and scrapes that commonly occur when launching and landing the craft.

The angled bow and built-in keel contribute to the vessel’s structural integrity and help prevent the craft from deforming in warm weather.

Storage Capacity

The Lure 10 provides an abundance of storage space to ensure you can bring all of the equipment and tackle you like on your next fishing trip. It features a large oval-shaped hatch in the bow and a flip-up console in the cockpit for storing lures and other small items.

The rear cargo area is molded so that it will accept a crate and features bungee straps to keep your gear secure. Two flush-mount rod holders are situated behind the seat and two rails are situated along the sides of the cockpit. These rails can be used to mount additional rod holders, electronics or other equipment.

Comfort

FeelFree clearly emphasized comfort while designing the Lure 10 (as well as the larger Lure 11.5). The Lure 10 not only provides ample leg room for riders, it also comes with adjustable foot braces to ensure you can attain a comfortable paddling position. But, the most noteworthy feature of the Lure 10 is easily the Gravity Seat.

Fully padded and adjustable, this seat can be raised or lowered to provide the best paddling or fishing position. Additionally, the Lure 10 includes a standing pad to ensure your feet and back don’t ache after fishing all day long.

Stability

The Lure 10 is a very stable vessel and most anglers reported that it performed admirably in moderately choppy water. It has a 375 lb capacity, so you won’t have to leave any of your gear at home. Additionally, the Lure 10 is stable enough to permit standing.

This is very important to anglers who struggle to fish comfortably from a seating position. A stand-up strap is also included with the kayak, to help make it easier to stand up or sit down without falling.

Maneuverability

The Lure 10 isn’t the nimblest craft on the market, but it will allow you to navigate crowded waters and narrow passages with ease. It tracks very well thanks to the included keel and it doesn’t get blown around on the surface very much, either. Some anglers lamented the craft’s lack of speed, but this is to be expected from a 10-foot-long kayak.

This vessel does weigh nearly 70 pounds, so it isn’t light enough for all anglers to carry it, but the molded handles make it easy to carry with the help of a friend. Additionally, the included Wheel in the Keel makes it easy to roll down to the water.

Summary

There are few kayaks on the market at a similar price range that offer the combination of storage space, stability and comfort that the Lure 10 does. It is a great choice for beginners, thanks to the stable ride it provides, yet intermediate and advanced paddlers will appreciate the vessel’s features and handling.

Because it is only 10 feet long, the Lure 10 is not terribly fast when trying to cross large expanses of water, so it isn’t a good choice for anglers who want to fish offshore or cross large bodies of water.
